Nicole and Loree

This painting was made from a photo I was given of myself and my cousin when we were just toddlers. I decided to use it for my latest painting project because I loved the different expression I saw in the photograph. Almost making us like two different characters. (Forgive me for the way I photographed the painting, I know its bad).

Gothdoll: "Angelic Zombie"

Gothdoll: "Angelic Zombie": "h"

"Angelic Zombie"

I made this painting from a photograph of myself that came out off-color, but when I looked at the yellowish photograph, I didn't come across to me as a bad photograph something beautiful and strange at the same time. The skin might be almost greenish in tint, but I think it adds to the image rather then takes away.

Vampire Diaries.....bites

O.K., I have to say something. Last night I watched the premiere episode of The Vampire Diaries and mannn was it boring!!! I apologize to those who are fans of the books as well as to all those who worship everything vampire but I have to be honest, it hurt. The show is supposed to be based on the book series by the same name. It starts off with Elena, who narrates most of the show, and explains how her parents are conveniently dead because of some accident a while back, (like most movies Disney makes where one or both parents are out of the picture for no particular reason), anyway somehow she feels its her fault and deals with her inner pain by writing in her diary and visiting cemeteries apparently. The main character is pretty uninteresting so far but that's nothing to how this show portrays her high school, its almost laughable. Apparently every teenage girl, who's pretty enough, is a whore and drugs are completely common place even after all the information we've learned over the years about the danger of drug use and how each one has their own bad side effect. I don't know about any of you out there, but I went to a public high school not too long ago and drugs were never all there for the taking, nor was it the norm to sleep around if you were desirable. This is 2009 not the 1970s!!! Besides the unrealistic look at teenage life, Elena and her friends notice a new boy at the school named Stefan, a secret vampire. If you've seen his first entry into the show you'll realize very quickly that he's a complete rip off of the Edward Cullen character, brooding, mysterious, pretentious, depressed, and not interested in getting friendly with girls, but at the same time not giving them personal space. It's almost like a formula now. To fast forward things a little, Stefan becomes interested in Elena due to her resemblance to an old flame, Stefan's brother, Damon, makes his appearance, and one of Elena's classmates gets attacked by what she says from her own lips is a vampire. There are still some episodes to come, but in order to create intrigue for next week they seemed to finish on a question.
The Vampire Diaries, from what I can see is not good, but its not bad either. I think there needs to more character development in later episodes, especially with Damon, I'd like to see more of him. I also think the back story of Stefan and Damon should be emphasized more in order to explain their rivalry as well as their vampirism. As for the rest of the cast, there's nothing really positive I can say about them, their all equally bland. Even the main character, Elena, in my opinion is the most uninteresting looking girl on that show and after a while I was starting to wonder why a man who's been around for a few hundred years would all the sudden be besotted by the most mediocre girl on the planet. It doesn't help that the acting by the high school humans on this show is almost dead of emotion and I don't understand how Stefan's ability to suddenly be able to way walk in the sunlight is all due to a magic ring. As interesting as I thought Damon's ability to morph into a crow, I was completely pissed off because in the vampire story that I'm writing, one of the older vampires has the ability to change into a raven at will, but I thought of it first! Oh well. The series so far looks like a cheesier version of Twilight, (if that was even possible), but since I personally haven't read the books myself, maybe there's more to this vampire story then I'm initially seeing right now. As teen-angst driven as it seems, I'm still going to tune in to next week's episode....and commenting on it.

Hello, I'm Gothdoll but as you can see that's just a stupid title that I gave myself because I thought it was creative when I typed it. This blog is ment for artists like me who enjoy paintings by Mark Ryder, reviewing films, and reviewing books with vampire themes, (yes even the Twilight series, although I personally think the movie is a bit cheesy). I've recently started watching the first and second seasons of True Blood and it is so awesome!!!! The reason why this vampire theme sounds like its been rambling around in my head right now is because it seems to be only in the last year that vampires have suddenly taken over literature, movies, and television all at the same time. Its like an explosion of vampire fever in our pop culture. I personally started writing a vampire series of my own, but it has nothing to do with some kind of romantic twist where the human chick some how falls head over heels for a pretentious, brooding immortal-speaking of which, I haven't seen the new CW series that's based on The Vampire Diaries book series, but I will check it out just to see it's own take on the vampire myth.
